50 states: Back where I come from

When people ask where I'm from, the standard answer is "the Seattle area." The general response isn't because I don't want people to know where my hometown is, but more that I'm not sure anyone could locate it on a map. It's small-ish. Not Midwest tiny. But it's not exactly a thriving metropolis. So you can understand why I don't initially say "Spanaway, Washington."

Spanaway's rural areas provide many opportunities to shoot pretty landscapes, which are my fave. These are some of the images I captured during my visit at Christmas ... A digital homage to my roots.

I totally know what you mean about "Seattle area" when you lived in Spanaway. When I lived outside of Portland (growing up), I just always said "Portland area". I DO know where Spanaway is though :) Last Christmas we drove through the Christmas lights at Spanaway Lake :)

I'm glad you know what I mean! OMG! I love that you saw the lights. Going to the lights after Thanksgiving dinner is a tradition with my mom's side of the fam.

Love those pics, looks like a precious town and so quaint! I just say Dallas area, but I grew up in a pretty big suburb right outside of Dallas that a lot of people have heard of in Texas. But, I know if I moved to another state no one would have any idea what I was talking about.

I love the greens in the sky and the "quite stillness" you captured. Clever girl!

Haha, but you missed the Walmart, strip malls and urban sprawl. These pictures certainly are beautiful and remind me that despite the sprawl nature of Spanaway, there are some beautiful areas.

Since I live away from the Northwest as well, I too find it difficult to distinguish where I grew up from Seattle. Even harder is to distinguish how different Eastern Washington is from Western Washington.
